The cinema chain includes:

  • Planet Ayalon, which opened in July 2006 in the Ayalon Mall, Ramat Gan and operates 15 movie theaters
  • Planet Haifa, which opened in July 2008 at the CineMall in Haifa at Lev HaMifratz Junction and operates 23 movie theaters, including a 4DX theater, ScreenX Hall and a VIP complex with four VIP theaters
  • Planet Rishon LeTzion with 26 movie theaters, including four VIP theaters, an IMAX theater, a 4DX theater, ScreenX Hall,
    two banquet halls, and a huge entertainment and food court with numerous restaurants and cafés located on the lakeside near Superland in Rishon LeTzion
  • Planet Jerusalem, near Jerusalem’s First Station complex, which has 16 movie theaters, including an IMAX theater and a 4DX theater
  • Planet Beer-Sheva, with 18 movie theaters including a IMAX theater, a 4DX theater, ScreenX Hall and a VIP complex. Located in the Yeshpro Planet Entertainment and Recreation Complex in Beer- Sheva
  • Planet Zichron Yaakov with 12 movie theaters, including a VIP complex and located in Zichron Yaakov.
 
Planet movie theaters provide an exceptional viewing experience, from giant screens, advanced sound systems and luxurious roomy seating to the most advanced ticketing services in the world and maximum accessibility for disabled persons.
 
The Planet cinema chain is owned by the Israel Theaters Group, which also currently operates five Rav Chen cinemas.
 

International Activity:

The Israel Theaters Group, operator of the Planet and Rav Chen cinema chains, has been in operation since 1930 and is the oldest and largest film operator in Israel. The Group recently merged operations in Israel and Europe with Cineworld, England and Ireland’s leading cinema chain.
 
 
The newly-merged chain is the second largest cinema chain in Europe, and in 2018 the group acquired Regal.
The merged network is the world's second-largest network with 9,531 screens in 789 theaters around the world:
  • United States: 556 theaters  with 7,293 screens
  • England and Ireland: 121 theaters with 1,100 screens 
  • Poland: 35 cinemas with 383 theaters
  • Hungary: 17 cinemas with 153 theaters
  • Romania: 26 cinemas with 237 theaters
  • The Czech Republic: 14 cinemas with 133 theaters
  • Israel: 11 cinemas with 136 theaters
  • Bulgaria: 6 cinemas with 65 theaters
  • Slovakia: 3 cinemas with 29 theaters
 
 
The Israel Theaters Group holds the official franchise for IMAX in all countries in which it operates. The first digital IMAX in Israel was introduced in July 2012 at Planet Rishon LeTzion, where all the biggest blockbusters are screened using extraordinary projection and sound technology. Today there are IMAX theatres in Planet Rishon Lezion, Planet Jerusalem and Planet Be'er Sheva.
 
Planet Rishon LeTzion is the first cinema in the company’s European group and the seventh in the world to offer 4DX cinema technology. This innovative technology adds an extra dimension of sensation to the cinema experience, making viewers feel as if they’re actually inside the movie! Special theater effects, including seats that move, water and scents sprayed into the air and towards viewers, wind and air currents, bubbles and fog are integrated into the movie plot to generate authenticity and draw viewers into the very environment experienced by the characters on screen.The 4DX halls are available in Planet Rishon LeZion, Haifa, Jerusalem and Beer Sheva.
 

In December 2018, ScreenX, the first of its kind in Israel, was opened.  It provides a 270-degree viewing experience with three screens that give viewers a more powerful, innovative, progressive, and immersive experience. ScreenX is available in Planet Rishon LeZion, Beer Sheva and Haifa.

Planet Milestones:

  • 1931: The company opens the first cinema in Haifa named Ein Dor.
  • 1935: The company opens the Armon Cinema in Haifa, a movie theater with 1,800 seats and a retractable roof, renowned throughout Israel.
  • 1958: The company expands for the first time outside of Haifa with the acquisition of Chen Cinema in Tel Aviv's Dizengoff Square.
  • 1967: The company acquires the veteran film distribution company Forum Film Ltd. and becomes the first cinema operator in the major film distribution leagues.
  • 1982: The company opens Rav Chen Dizengoff Tel Aviv, the first modern multiplex cinema complex in Israel, with sensational success and becomes a revolutionary pioneer in the cinema industry.
  • 1997: The company hits its growth ceiling in Israel and expands to Central Europe with the opening of a multiplex cinema complex in Budapest, Hungary.
  • 1999: The company enters the cinema industry in the Czech Republic.
  • 2000: The company opens its first cinema in Poland, including the first IMAX theater in Central Europe.
  • 2006: The company opens Planet Ayalon, introducing third-generation cinema to Israel. 
  • 2007: The company opens its first cinema complexes in Romania.
  • 2008: The company opens Planet Haifa, the largest cinema complex in Israel.
  • 2011: The company acquires Palace Cinemas in Slovakia.
  • 2012: The company opens its flagship cinema complex, Planet Rishon LeTzion. 
  • 2014: The company merges with the British Cineworld cinema chain.
  • 2015: The company opens Planet Jerusalem.
  • 2016: The company opens Planet Beer-Sheva. 
  • 2017: The company opens Planet Zichron Yaakov.
  • 2018: The company acquires the American cinema chain Regal.
